The most common questions before booking a Fairbanks aurora tour.
The 2026-2027 season fills 3-6 months ahead. With a maximum of 10 guests per night, advance booking is essential. Book as early as possible once your travel dates are set, especially for peak months December through February.
Reschedule free anytime within 12 months of your original tour date, subject to availability. We never cancel for low bookings — your tour runs even with one guest. If severe weather forces us to cancel and we can't reschedule, you receive a full refund of the tour price plus FareHarbor processing fees. Cancellations more than 30 days out: full refund. 30 days or less: 50% refund. 7 days or less: nonrefundable.
If no aurora is observed during your scheduled tour (at guide's discretion, by visual or by camera), you can join another tour during your current Fairbanks trip at no extra cost, subject to availability. That's the Aurora Commitment. The aurora is a natural phenomenon — we can't guarantee it appears, but we can guarantee the safety net.
Yes — book 3 or more consecutive nights and save 15%. Multi-night bookings also push your aurora-viewing odds past 90% based on Fairbanks historical data. For private group tours (up to 9 guests, $975+ starting), contact Michael directly for a custom quote.
Small group tours have an age minimum of 10 years old. Families with younger children are welcome to book a private tour, which has no age minimum and gives you full lodge use for your group.
Hotel and Airbnb pickups in the Fairbanks core area. If you're staying outside the core area, we'll meet you at the Morris Thompson Visitor Center in downtown Fairbanks. Pickup window is typically 8-9 PM, returning to your hotel by approximately 5 AM. We don't currently pick up from Chena Hot Springs, Borealis Basecamp, North Pole, Eielson, or Salcha.
No — winter clothing rental is not included with the tour. Fairbanks winters can drop to -30°F or colder. We recommend renting locally from Alaska Element or 6th Avenue Outfitters, both of which rent full kits by the day. Our private wilderness lodge gives you warm indoor space anytime so you can move between outside and inside at your own pace.
